For Cerebral Blood Flow Monitoring During Surgery

A need was identified for a low-cost ultrasound transducer that will perform real-time, non-invasive, continuous monitoring of cerebral blood flow during surgery. The medical device required an ultrasound transducer to focus ultrasound energy at cortical depth through the cranial bone.
Koven was asked to provide technical improvements to the transducer, including specific bandwidth, central frequency, and power requirement optimizations.
Koven provided a design and prototypes based on the provided specifications and the protypes were tested for performance. Several design iterations were performed to optimize the many required parameters.
Final transducer prototypes produced by Koven were integrated by the client into the medical device for clinical trials.
